BURLEIGH Waters is second only to Paddington when it comes to buyers looking for units in Queensland, according to a new survey.
Research released by REA Group, which runs realestate.com.au, shows each unit (including townhouses and villas) listed on its website in Burleigh Waters had an average of 639 visits between September last year and February.
That put it ahead of Brisbane suburbs, including Norman Park, Ashgrove, Windsor and Holland Park.
Miami and Kirra also made the top 10 list for units while when it came to buyers looking for houses, Burleigh Heads was the only Coast suburb to make the cut coming in at No.9.
Danielle Rose sold a double-storey townhouse in January at This Estate in Burleigh Waters for $510,000 after purchasing it for $450,000 in 2007.
Ms Rose said the market had turned recently with surging prices in the area meaning she was able to sell for a profit.
“When we bought was at the height of the market when things were going well,” she said.
“If we were to sell six to 12 months earlier, we would have sold at a loss.”
The mum-of-two was also able to sell a four-bedroom home at Pintail Cres, Burleigh Waters around the same time for a $205,000 gain after renovations.
She has moved to a duplex in Burleigh Heads with her two daughters Ella, 10, and Olivia, five.
According to CoreLogic RP Data 138 units sold last year in Burleigh Waters for a median sale price of $369,500, up 8.7 per cent in 12 months.
Kingfisher Realty sales agent Juliana Gomes, who sold Ms Rose’s unit, said Burleigh Waters was popular with families because schools, including Marymount College, shopping centres including Stockland Burleigh Heads and the beach were all close by.
“Interstate buyers want to live in Burleigh Waters due to the proximity to great schools, major shopping centres and the beach is just a 10 to 15 minute bike ride away,” she said.
“You also have that sense of community.”
REA executive general manager Andrew Rechtman said the realestate.com.au Top Sellers’ Markets outlined the Australian suburbs in highest demand from buyers.
“The data tells us if you own a property in one of the top ten, and are considering selling, now is a great time to list on the market,” he said.
“On the flip side, if you’re looking to buy a property, these are the suburbs where you may face hot competition.”
