Top honours were received by Ipswich Greater Springfield in the awarding ceremony of Urban Development Institute of Australia for the category of master-planned development. It is a selection among the best development services in the Australia.
THE Ipswich suburb of Springfield has won top honours in the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s national awards for master-planned development.
Winners across nine categories were announced at the national urban development lobby group’s gala dinner awards, in front of 900 guests, at Star Casino Sydney.
Now consisting of 30,000 residents across six suburbs and covering 2800 hectares, Greater Springfield has set a benchmark for providing adequate infrastructure and services for the local community.
The mega-suburb is home to its own Education City, with more than 46% of the population identifying as students.
Within the learning hub there are currently 14 educational providers, which include the University of Southern Queensland, TAFE Queensland South West, 10 private and five state schools, as well as 12 childcare centres.
Springfield Land Corporation deputy chairman Bob Sharpless said the transfer of 500 GE Australia employees to the suburb was just the latest in a series of exciting developments.
“We are planning services, facilities and infrastructure that will cater for around 105,000 residents by 2030 – a city the size of Darwin,” Mr Sharpless said.
“The area’s designation as a principal activity centre sends a clear message of the importance of Greater Springfield for the wider south-east Queensland region now and into the future.”
Springfield Land Corporation, Lend Lease and Mirvac all nominated Greater Springfield for the award and jointly accepted the accolade in Sydney last Thursday night.
Lend Lease Communities managing director Matt Mears said Springfield Lakes had been meticulously planned to incorporate a range of residential areas, open space, transport networks and retail outlets while working in harmony with Greater Springfield’s city centre.
Stephen Holmes and Alan Zammit were responsible for judging the winners across the nine award categories.
