You could call it the Ash Barty effect.
In the past six months, tennis courts in Brisbane have seen tremendous demand and have recently broken records.
And the Queensland tennis superstar isn’t the only one looking for a property with a tennis court worthy of a grand slam final.
With the tennis summer just around the corner, the agents say that the appetite for lifestyle real estate increases on large plots that offer the whole experience for families.
Rachael Spinks, director of Spinks & Co Residential, said a couple of big months had passed for tennis courts in Brisbane.
“I think it showed that this market has real strength with the top prestige sale (of 2019) of a tennis court house,” said Spinks.
“It shows that people want to continue to have these lifestyle qualities – you can sell an entire dream.”
The biggest tennis court property transaction in Brisbane this year was the off-market sale of 1 King Arthur Tce, Tennyson.
The deal has not yet been finalized, but sources say the property, which belongs to Brisbane Broncos’ chairman, Karl Morris, raised approximately $ 17 million.
Ms. Spinks said that most of the tennis courts that changed hands in 2019 were sold to local families looking for more size.
“I think people really want to spend more time with their families,” she said.
“The whole tennis summer in Australia really motivates people to go outside and do things with their family.”
Heath Williams of Place – New Farm negotiated one of the largest tennis court sales of the year and one of the largest property sales of the year in Queensland.
Mr Williams sold a five-bedroom house on a 4,240-square-meter hill on Nestor Ave this month. 59 in Bardon for $ 7.85 million.
“It was all about lifestyle – an area buyer in the city,” said Williams.
“We had several offers, all from buyers in Paddington.”
Mr. Williams said it was rare for lifestyle properties of this size to be available near the city and with tennis courts.
“If I had three of these houses, they would all be sold,” he said.
“In some suburbs, it has almost become an expectation to have a tennis court.”
One of the leading architects in Brisbane, Joe Adsett, has just built an L-shaped house in Ascot that was built around a tennis court.
Mr. Williams also markets the incredible property at 1 Leopard St, Kangaroo Point, which holds the record for Brisbane’s most expensive residential property sale.
He said he had negotiated with a potential buyer to sell the property, but they wanted a tennis court.
There is now a handful of stunning tennis courts on the market, including a beachfront property where Ash Barty quietly searched for a cool $ 6.995 million.
After the historic 23-year-old payday in China earlier this year when she won the biggest cash prize in tennis history – a check for $ 6.4 million.
Chelmer residents David and Yvonne Todd sell their Georgian-style house with five bedrooms and a tennis court at 17 Lama Street after living there for 11 years.
And Ms. Spinks is about to list a tennis court property at 85 Ascog Tce, Toowong, on a 2291 m² block with a view of the pool and the city.
