Retiring Broncos veteran Darius Boyd is the latest sports star to sell a home in Brisbane, as the market continues to run hot.
RETIRING Broncos veteran Darius Boyd and his wife, Kayla, have finally sold their luxury home in Hendra as they prepare for life after football.
It comes hot on the heels of another sports star selling his Brisbane pad as the local property market continues to kick goals.
A year after first being listed for sale, the Boyds’ property at 78 Harding Street has sold offmarket to a local family for close to $2 million.
The couple initially wanted $2.1 million for the home, then dropped the price to offers over $1.99 million before listing it without a price guide.
The property was only built about two years ago after they commissioned Base Architecture and builder Graya Constructions to create the four-bedroom home with jet black exterior.
They paid $810,000 for the original property in 2016 and have had it on the market since March last year.
The Boyds have already moved on to their next project in Paddington, where they spent $1.205 million on an original 1930s cottage.
They are due to start building a new home on the site this month.
Drew Davies of Place Ascot, who negotiated the sale, declined to comment on the sale price, but industry sources say it was near the $2 million mark.
Mr Davies said it was a case of finding the right buyer for the property.
“They have children and they loved the visibility from the kitchen, the heart of the home,” Mr Davies said.
“I’m dealing with a shortlist of buyers hungry for properties.
“Anything around this price and above, I have buyers ready to go.”
Mr Davies said he had noticed a 40 per cent increase in inquiries for properties this year, particularly for properties in the Ascot, Clayfield and Hendra area.
Earlier this month, Boyd — the former Brisbane Broncos captain — announced he would quit rugby league at the end of the season.
In another sign buyers are back in the market, rugby union star Quade Cooper has also found a buyer for his Bulimba home after it languished for more than a year on the market.
The modern concrete mansion that Mr Cooper shared with his girlfriend, model and former Miss Universe Australia, Laura Dundovic, has sold for just over $2.2 million to a couple relocating from Melbourne.
The home at 34 Addison Avenue was last listed for between $2.25 million and $2.35 million after failing to sell at auction in 2018.
Michael Bacon and Simon Caulfield from Place Kangaroo Point negotiated the sale.
Cooper bought it for $1.845 million in 2015 when he was with the Queensland Reds.
