When it comes to finding a rental property the general idea is the less you pay the better. But that’s not always the case.
Brisbane’s high-end rental market has active tenants forking out weekly rent that doubles most weekly wages.
And while the majority of people might not be able to comprehend splashing $3000 a week on rent, a small percentage are more than happy to bear the costs.
Place Estate Agents’ high-end rental specialist Lisa Perruzza said two groups generally lease at Brisbane’s top-end.
“There is no doubt this is a very niche market; it’s really the prestige market for renters,” Ms Perruzza said.
“The main clients are affluent locals who are usually in the process of building a house and need somewhere to live for 12 to 18 months,” she said.
“And then there’s high-end executives from multinational companies, where the company takes on the costs.”
Ms Perruzza said money isn’t usually the deciding factor for high-end renters.
“When spending this sort of money on rent, it’s more about the lifestyle – or the lifestyle they have become accustomed to and want to continue living,” she said.
Median house rents in Brisbane currently sit at $400 per week, and apartments at $375.

Wilston – $2500 p/w
It’s not just properties right in the city centre attracting big bucks. With more land and space on the fringes of the city, this “lifestyle home” would be more suited to those seeking a bit more peace and quiet.
